If you are planning to rent out your property in Toronto on Airbnb, you may need a license depending on the type of property you have and how often you rent it out. As of September 2017, the City of Toronto implemented new regulations that require all short-term rental operators to obtain a license.
If you are renting out your primary residence (i.e., a room or a whole home that you live in for at least 180 days of the year), you are not required to have a license. However, you are required to register with the City and pay an annual fee of $50.
